Getting Started Basics:

Insurance Limitations

Many people begin counseling with the idea that they just need a few sessions and then discover how they may benefit from a longer course of therapy. The research indicates that at least 6 months of psychodynamic psychotherapy is needed for the long-term benefits of counseling to last. Many concerns can be addressed within a few sessions or a short course of psychotherapy. More time is often required to get through deeper issues and reap the full benefits of the process so it is best to be prepared to work on concerns over a length of time.

Your growth and development takes time, a lot like planting the seeds, nurturing them, and watching them grow. You may also find you are in a growth spurt where you progress rapidly for a period of time. If you have had many years dealing with significant issues, counseling can be an excellent way to begin dealing with main issues, while unpacking layers of significant memories, meaningful events, and seeing them in a new way.
